The children across the nursery have had a very busy November!
They celebrated all things Halloween towards the very end of October and the pumpkin carving went down a treat with everyone – Babies, Tots and Pre-school!
Throughout November, we celebrated Diwali with the Tots making tea light holders out of clay to help celebrate the festival of light. For Bonfire Night, both the children in Tots and Pre-school were shown how to use sparklers safely and enjoyed a warming hot chocolate outside.
In November, we also celebrated Children in Need. For this event, we invited all the children and staff to dress up in spots or pyjamas for a small donation. The children engaged in different messy play activities throughout the day. We also hosted a cake sale outside the front of the nursery. We raised an incredible £168.36. Thank you to all our families for donating!
This month, we also commemorated Remembrance Day. The nursery team used the book ‘A Poppy for Pappy’ to introduce the children to the significance of wearing a poppy. The children engaged in mark making to create their own poppies and wreaths to display around the nursery windows and doors.
What’s coming up in December
As we are fast approaching December, the children will start to engage in a range of different Christmas themed activities across the nursery. The children will have the chance to explore Christmas resources and sing Jingle Bells numerous times a day!
We will be taking part in Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 11th December to raise money for Save the Children. If you would like to donate for Christmas Jumper Day, then their will be money pots available on the day. On Tuesday 15th December and Thursday 17th December, we will be holding room Christmas parties with Christmas lunch for the children and staff.
Each year, the children usually have their photo taken by Freedom Photography at nursery. Parents and carers then normally have the opportunity to buy the professional photos. Unfortunately, this year we are unable to have the photographers attend the nursery. Therefore, in the first two weeks of December, we will be doing our own nursery photographs next to our nursery Christmas tree. Please feel free to bring in a Christmas outfit for your child to get changed into on the day of their session. We will take a photo next to our Christmas tree, print the photo and hand them out with the children’s Christmas artwork at the end of term.
We will also be taking part in The Old Station Nursery Group Christmas Advent Challenge. Each day in the lead up to Christmas, one nursery within the group will take part in a Christmas challenge and post a photo or video to our social media channels. We welcome parents to join in; tag us and use the hashtag #OSNAdventChallenge. For more information, take a look at our social media channels!
Other important information
The last day of term before the Christmas holidays for term time only children will be Friday 18th December 2020. Term time only children will return from Tuesday 5th January 2021. The nursery will close for all year round children on Christmas Eve at 1pm. All year round children will return from Monday 4th January 2021.
If your child will not be attending on Christmas Eve or towards the end December, do please let us know by email or phone.
Thank you for your patience and understanding regarding how drop off’s and pickups are organised. This will be in place for the foreseeable as it is still essential for us to minimise contact inside the nursery. I understand it is not ideal – it is getting harder for staff to see parents/carers faces when they are wearing face coverings as the evenings get darker and I understand how time consuming pick-up time can be. Your continued support is very much appreciated.
