Innsworth August News: Exploring, Caterpillars and Graduation

Nursery child with sunflowers

Welcome to our August newsletter! The summer holidays have gone extremely quickly but we are looking forward to starting the new term in September and welcoming new families to Innsworth. Most of you will know that I am now also Nursery Manager for Mottershead Drive and have started to split my time between both nurseries. I am really excited about working across both and the staff teams from each nursery will be working closely.

August news

The children in the baby room have enjoyed being able to get out and about again, walking and exploring the local area! Especially being able to visit the park next door.

The children in the Tots room have set up their Caterpillar Kit and can’t wait to see them change to Butterflies then release them into their garden!

The children in the Pre-school room have enjoyed cooking, especially making biscuits! The older Pre-schoolers have welcomed children from the Tots room that have transitioned from room to room over the Summer and sadly we have said goodbye to 34 children that have left to go to school, but we are very excited about their next adventure!

What’s coming up next month

Next month week commencing 20th September, the nursery will be raising awareness of the importance of recycling. As a nursery we do recycle but we will be highlighting it throughout the week with junk modelling, making our own recycling bins and exploring what we can recycle and why we should recycle.

Now that we are allowed to go out and about, all the children will be taking advantage of this and exploring the parks in the local area.

Cat from Boogie Beats returns for the Baby and Tots Room in September. She will be visiting every Tuesday at 2.15pm for the Baby Room and every Wednesday at 2.15pm for the Tots Room, during term time. Sporty Starts will return for Pre-school every Friday morning at 9.15am, during term time.

Other important information

We love to see what the children have been doing out of nursery so please add pictures to your child’s EyLog so we can see what they have been up too over the summer and we can share their interests at nursery.

Sam will be taking on the role as SENDCo Lead for Innsworth and Mottershead from September. She will be attending Supporting Down Syndrome in the setting training in September. Sue is now working a long side me as Office Manager for Innsworth and Mottershead. Last week, I made the staff bacon and veggie sausage butties to set them up for the day and to say thank you for always supporting each other and the nursery. Their hard work is I’m sure appreciated by all of you, so little moments like this really bring the team closer together!

The start of the new term for term time only children is Monday 6th September 2021.

Myself, Sue, Jo, Jemma and the rest of the team are here if you have any queries, questions or just fancy a chat!

Thank you all for your recent reviews on Google, Facebook or Your kind words and feedback really do make our day and we really appreciate the time spent on leaving us a review. If you haven’t yet had the chance to write a review and would like to, we would be very grateful. You can do this on Google, Facebook or

A reminder for those children who attend on a term time only basis, the new term starts back on Thursday, 2ndSeptember.

Finally, if your child is leaving us at the end of this term to move up to school, their last day will be 31st August unless you have told us otherwise.  If your child is not starting school straight away and you would like them to come to us for any additional sessions early in September, do let me know so that I can check our availability.

Activity for home

If you are looking for something to do at home this weekend or over the coming months, why not give our activity at home a go! Be aware that some activities or ideas may need to be adapted to suit your child’s age and development.

Paint with your hands and feet

  • Get a long roll of lining paper, old wall paper or material
  • Choose what colours to use to decorate with
  • Then use your hands and feet to decorate the paper
  • Display the artwork in your windows for people to see

What will your child be learning?

  • Independence, creativity and choice
  • Mark making using their body
  • Sensory experience of paint on their body
  • Colours
  • Shapes and sizes
  • Developing gross motor skills
  • New vocabulary, e.g. big, small, red, blue, green, feet, hand, etc
  • Give meaning to marks they make

Please share photos of your child’s activity on the app. We look forward to seeing your child’s creations!

Thank you so much for your continued support.
