Houlton July News: Camping, Hot Chocolate and Yearbooks

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

Welcome to our final newsletter of the academic year. It only seems a few weeks ago that it was September. It’s amazing how quickly the year has gone, especially July which seems to have whizzed past in a haze of sun shine and transition activities!

July news

The Outdoor classroom has seen several transformations this month, from the ice cream parlour role play to the campsite set up. All children have absolutely loved serving up different types of ice cream cones and lollies, using real money to pay for their purchases, writing menus of their favourite flavour combinations, and using ice cream scoops to manipulate balls of play dough.

The campsite we created built upon some of the children’s experiences and allowed them to act collaboratively. We erected one real tent, for the children to go on camping adventures, and provided den building equipment for them to create their own shelters. The children really impressed us with how they created narratives during their imaginative play at the campsite. From thunderstorms wrecking the tents, to children getting poorly, parents forgetting to pack the right clothes and an attack of baby frogs, it seemed that our pretend camping families were having all the bad luck! We celebrated this excellent learning by holding our own real campfire in wild school, where the children sang new camp songs, drank hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows; all whilst learning about fire safety.

We hope the families of the children who are leaving to start school this September have all had a chance to look through the yearbook that the children have created, which celebrates the friendships they have made over the past year, and how important they are to each other’s lives. The children have put a lot of effort into making the book, and have really enjoyed seeing their original drawings and words in full print. We are still working out the best way to make this available for families to purchase, so please look out for an email about it.

What’s coming up next month

As we were unable to hold our preschool celebration party at the end of term, we have been able to reschedule this to Friday 13th August. Please check your emails for the invitations, and all the details, and let us know whether your child will be able to make it. It will be a magical time!

Other important information

We just wanted to remind you of our Refer a Friend scheme. When you refer a friend and they join the nursery, we will thank you with a £100 discount off your next invoice. We know that you are always recommending us, so we just wanted to say a big thank you for your referrals. There is no limit on referring your friends, so please do refer as many people as you like! We are always very grateful for your support and look forward to welcoming more of your friends into our nursery family. For more information and terms and conditions, speak to the Nursery Manager.
