Heyford November News: Smores, Seasons and Sparklers

Heyford November

Hello everyone! We have been busy at nursery this month, with lots of festivals to celebrate. Thank you to everyone who came to our ‘Soup and Sparklers’ event, it was lovely to see so many of you there, and those smores were definitely delicious! Also, a big thank you to all those who joined us to raise money for Children In Need by wearing your pyjamas. We raised £50 for the charity!

November news

This month, each room has been doing lots of fun activities, and celebrating a variety of festivals and events.

The babies were thinking about keeping warm in the cold weather, and practising putting on their hats and wellies all by themselves. The children loved soup and sparklers and painting bright firework pictures. On Bonfire Night, the team turned off all the lights off and watched a firework display on the iPads, and the children were fascinated!

The tots have been exploring Firework Night and engaging in activities to create a firework display in the tots room, using different coloured paints and straws to create pretty patterns on black paper. The children also made poppies for Remembrance Day and had conversations about the importance of our heroes and who they are.

Preschool have been very focused on transport in all key areas of their learning, especially looking at trains! The children have created elevated platforms with bridges for the trains to cross, developing their mathematical language skills of preposition, speed length and height. They also enjoyed learning about submarines, and the idea of travelling underwater which in turn prompted the song ‘We All Live In A Yellow Submarine’!

What’s coming up next month

There will be so much festivity around nursery this month!

Instead of Christmas parties, due to the present circumstances, we will be having a Christmas event calendar, where the whole nursery will be taking part in Christmas themed activities on different days. We will be posting this up before the 1st so you know what we will be up to!

Other important information

Just a polite reminder for everyone that our core hours are 8am – 6pm, please do not ring the bell before your booked in start time and please phone us if you are late to collect.

We shut the nursery at 1pm on Christmas Eve ready for the Christmas break and do not reopen until Tuesday 4th January.

We will be also sending you out an email shortly to ask about your children’s Christmas week attendance.

This month, we have received a lot of new reviews on Daynurseries, Google and Facebook. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such lovely reviews. They are hugely appreciated by our team! If you haven’t had the chance to write a review yet, you can write one on Daynurseries by clicking here, on Google or on Facebook. Thank you for your continued support!

Here’s to a fantastic and very festive month ahead!

Home activity

If you are looking for something to do at home this weekend or over the coming months, why not give our activity at home a go! Be aware that some activities or ideas may need to be adapted to suit your child’s age and development.

Create your own stained glass window

Please follow the activity idea below:

  • Use card to make a window, draw and cut out panes for the window.
  • Use tissue paper or sweet wrappers to create your stained glass effect, stick with glue or sellotape.
  • Alternatively you could do this with newspaper and old magazines.
  • Display for all to see.

What will your child be learning?

  • Independence, creativity and choice.
  • Mark making.
  • Colours.
  • Shapes and size.
  • Developing fine motor skills.
  • New vocabulary, e.g. big, small, cut, square, circle, window, red, blue, green, etc.
  • Sense of pride, achievement and self esteem.
  • Use of tools for a purpose.
  • Give meaning to marks they make.

Please share photos of your child’s activity on the parent app. We look forward to seeing your child’s updates.

Please continue to share what your child has been doing within their home life on the parent app, their interests and their development, so their key person can see this and use towards helping them monitor their development and learning.
