Hi everyone! We can not believe that it is the end of May already, this month has just whizzed by! We have had such unpredictable weather to contend with this month but the children have still thoroughly enjoyed playing outside, exploring the rain, sunshine and hail! We warmly welcome all of our new families and remind everyone that our staff are always here if you need anything.
We enjoyed celebrating May Day at the beginning of the month. The children thoroughly enjoyed dancing around the May pole, making music with the instruments and waving ribbons.
This month, the babies have been doing lots of exercises, such as yoga, stretching and moving their bodies in new and different ways. One little boy insisted that we did more and more and even started calling out his own movements for us e.g “jump”. He loved it when we all copied his movements! The children have also been embracing the great British weather; from picnics outside to banging drums just like the thunder and dancing in the rain.
Throughout May, the tots enjoyed celebrating National Space Day. The children made paper mache planets and rockets as well as designing their own aliens too. The children read ‘Whatever Next,’ then looked at pictures of space and discussed how they could get up to space themselves. Outside, all of the rainy weather has made the garden muddy, so the children embraced this by making mud pies. They looked delicious..!
This month, the Preschool have spent time exploring reflections. The children noticed that the recent rainstorms left a variety of puddles in their garden. The children all sat around on the big tyres and looked down at them. They could see their reflections and waved to one another. The children noticed that when they moved, their reflections also moved.
What’s coming up next month
During June, we have lots to look forward to. On the 5th June, the children will be celebrating World Environment Day and thinking about how they ca look after the planet. On the 20th, the children will be feeling thankful for all the Father figures in their lives. Watch this space for Father’s Day treats! On the 21st June, the children will be celebrating the summer solstice, embracing all things summery with fun activities such as ice lolly making.
Other important information
I am sure that everyone has read that Jan will be leaving us here at Heyford for a new position within The Old Station Nursery Group. We will still see her 2 days a week until a new Nursery Manager is appointed. After that, she will still be dropping in once in a while to help our team. Charlotte, the Nursery Manager from The Old Station Nursery at Oxford Science Park will be with us 3 days a week too.
Tracy will be leaving us to go to our Bampton nursery once we have a replacement to fill her shoes. Bampton is much closer to home for her. Amy, our Domestic Support Assistant, will also be leaving us this month. Both Tracy and Amy will be greatly missed by us all!
Thank you all for your continued support.
Louise Nicholls, Deputy Nursery Manager
