Heyford June News: Music, Fancy Dress and Beach Treasures

Heyford Car

Halfway through the year in a flash. It has gone so quickly! At least we have finally had some weather to enjoy the time of year – however, it didn’t last long did it! Thank you all for your support while Charlotte and Jan settle into our new roles. Now, it would be great if summer would continue to greet us with more sunshine and less rain!

June news

The babies have shown a great interest in songs, music, dancing and instruments. As luck would have it, June 21st was International Music Day. We listened to a variety of songs, including a lovely song that had been made into 28 different genres! We followed this up by having a painting party, where we put music on and danced while making marks on the easel. We must say, our babies have some very impressive dance moves, and made some masterpieces while doing so.

Tots have loved exploring the first letter of their names, engaging in sensory play with various materials as well as making the most of the incredibly warm weather we have had this month. We have also really enjoyed reading our new Julia Donaldson story books, there are so many new words and rhymes to learn. “Room on the Broom” has been a favourite, using our fancy dress to recreate the characters from the story!

Pre-school continue to share their adventures of the seaside, with some of the children bringing back a beach combing find to show their friend and talk about their treasures. We have used forks and paintbrushes to design blowfish and other sea creatures from under the sea. During circle time, this had led to some fascinating conversations such as pollution in the sea and understanding ways we can help preserve our environment, making sure we take everything we take to the beach home with us again.

What’s coming up next month

On 4th July we are celebrating Independence day with all American activities, on 7th July it is International Chocolate Day – we will be baking lots of yummy treats! On 23rd July Steph in our baby room is getting married – we will be making and throwing confetti to celebrate.

The end of summer term is Friday July 16th – although some of our friends may be celebrating their last day, we will be holding a leavers party so watch this space! On the 25th you will see us at the Heyford Community fun day with an exciting stall, do come and say hello.
