Heyford July News: Sunny Walks, Butterflies and Ice

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

Well here we are at the start of the 6 weeks school holiday! This year our 1st cohort of Babies are leaving us to move onto school. It only seems like 5 minutes since we were welcoming them into the Baby Room. Please do send in photos of their first day at school looking all smart in their new uniforms. Working in Childcare really is the best job in the world, it is a pleasure and a privilege for us to be able to encourage their learning and aid their development.

As you are aware we had our 1st Ofsted inspection on Monday 19th July. We are unable to share the outcome with you until the report has been ratified and published. However, I can say we are all very pleased with the outcome! We will share it with you all when we are able to

We welcome Helena and Natalie to our team this month. Helena is qualified to L3 and is working in the Pre-School room and Natalie has come on board as an all year round lunch cover in Tots room. Welcome to the team ladies!

Steph, in our Baby room, was married on Friday 23rd July, of course we all went to the Evening Reception and had a great time. We wish Steph and Ash a long life of happiness!

July news

This month the Babies have been taking full advantage of being able to go for walks again. We have been taking trips to Sainsbury’s to buy snacks, exploring Heyford, having picnics, and we even visited the new coffee shop for treats! The children have loved being able to have a roam, see all of the diggers, and have had got lots of lorry drivers to beep their horns and wave!

Tots have been very busy this month. Because of the lovely hot weather they have been doing lots of water play, washing the dolls, and cleaning the cars. The team have frozen insects in ice and the children have watched them melt. They have drawn lots of lovely pictures for the Summer Display, including practising their fine motor skills by making butterflies with some sticking and gluing. They showed great interest in Euro 2020, and more recently have been learning about the Olympics by painting the Olympic Logo. Phew, that is a very busy month for our Tots!

The Pre-School children have shown a large interest in mini-beasts and butterflies. The children have been delighted on the ‘Daily Mile’, where they have observed many of them to explore and chase. They have observed the butterflies and asked many questions about them and their origin. Our growing garden has a large butterfly bush which has attracted many butterflies and bees. We have been trimming the dead flowers off using our cutting skills to continue the growth of the flowering period. “The butterflies like to eat their dinner here” one of the children says as he witnesses many butterflies collecting pollen. We have read the story of “The Hungry Caterpillar”, and talked about healthy food choices. The children are excited to learn about the life cycle of caterpillar to butterfly as we watch them develop in the tent we have recently purchased for this.

What’s coming up next month

For our babies, we are planning on having a Summer Picnic on Thursday 19th August. Further details to follow, but please save the date! Monday 30th August is a Bank Holiday so the nursery will be closed, but Rugby Tots and Boogie Beats will be returning to nursery in September which is great news! Finally, term will be starting again in September on Thursday 2nd.
