Heyford January News: Buckets, Insects and Paint

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

January news

Welcome to all of our new families in Babies, Tots and Preschool! We seem to be busier than ever, which is wonderful!

Well done to Steph and Esther who were both awarded employee of the month in January for their hard work and commitment. They have been a huge support for their fellow staff team and, of course, all of the children. We love giving this award to employees each month; showing our appreciation for everything our team do!

We also have new hand sanitiser stations at the garden gates for you to use at pick up/drop off times. Please do use this so that we can continue to keep everyone as safe as possible.

This month, the Babies have welcomed lots of new little faces to the room, along with Celia, who has joined us from Tots. She has already started to teach us some Spanish! The children thoroughly enjoyed the snow earlier this month, though a bit confusing as the children felt it with their hands for the first time and continued to investigated it thoroughly. The toy of the month has been the buckets! We were clearing out the cupboard under the sink and put out lots of buckets to throw away. However, the children found them first and they have provided us with many brilliant activities so far; including filling and emptying opportunities as well as stacking them inside one another. They have also become hats and, in turn, props for being the Grand Old Duke of York’s marching soldiers.

Over in Tots, we have welcomed Bethan to our team. It is great to have her! The children have been focusing on being healthy and keeping fit this month, through activities such as yoga, creating obstacle courses and extra fun wake and shakes. The children have also returned to participating in the Daily Mile every morning. Insects have been another interest followed throughout January. The children have used their magnifying glasses to look at the detail of bugs before getting very creative and drawing them. We also have new insect stencils which the children love!

The children in Preschool have been exploring lots of different ways to use paint and describing what they have created. While exploring outside, the children collected sticks and leaves to use as brushes when they painted. Their art looked very inventive! The children have also thought about numbers and the alphabet as well as how to create the shapes of these characters. They have even used mud to make pictures using their fingers as the tools.

What’s coming up in February

We have lots of exciting activities to look forward to throughout February.

On the 12th of February, we will celebrate Chinese New Year. The children will engage in creating colourful artwork and sampling different treats/food.  Of course, on the 14th of February we will be celebrating Valentines Day. We will be celebrating everything and everyone that we love.

February also brings us Pancake Day – a firm favourite of the children’s! On the 16th, we will be making pancakes, flipping them and then decorating our pancakes with lots of toppings. At the very end of February, the children will celebrate Carnaval, a Spanish festival celebrating life. So there is a lot to look forward to and the children will continue to be extremely busy!
