What a busy month October has been!
We have had so many exciting things going on across the nursery including World Space Week, National Baking Week and The Big Draw! The children have thoroughly enjoyed focusing on some new activities (and we are sure the practitioners enjoyed them too!). We also took part in ‘Wear Red Day’ to make a stand against racism and raised money towards a very good cause. To finish the month off, we have had a Halloween Party Day where the children and practitioners have worn their spookiest outfits to nursery!
Our under 2s children have particularly enjoyed playing bakers this month and have continued their enjoyment of National Baking Week. For this, the children made some lovely cakes and ‘free from’ gingerbread men. They have extended this in their role play area, using the kitchen resources to make believe.
This month, our toddlers have also been expressing their creativity and made some wonderful pictures for ‘Wear Red Day’ using red paint and various tools. They have also been discovering other ways to make marks including using pens, pencils, chalks and flour.
The preschool children have been focusing on all things Halloween throughout October and have created lots of different Halloween and Autumn themed artwork. On top this, they have been on hand to offer some creative flare when decorating their room ready for the Halloween Party Day.
What’s coming up in November
November will bring us lots more exciting themed days including wearing red for Remembrance Day on the 11th November, wearing something spotty for Children in Need on the 13th November, celebrating World Kindness Day and World Nursery Rhyme Week.
Our under 2s will be beginning to do some activities around feeling and emotions in November throughout their daily activities to support their blossoming friendships.
The toddlers will be focusing on their speech and language development as well as exploring their vocabulary to help them communicate all of their wonderful ideas and opinions.
The children in preschool will be exploring shape, space and measure to develop their mathematical skills and explore lots of themed resources such as puzzles and shapes.
Other important information
Hannah, our lovely Lunch Support, will be finishing with us on the 20th November to begin her maternity leave and we would like to wish her lots of luck and love on the safe arrival of her second child. We are currently holding lots of interviews to find a suitable replacement for Hannah’s maternity leave and will keep parents updated on our progress with this.
Sheila, our fabulous Nursery Cook, will be retiring on the 26th November and she will be dearly missed. Interviews are currently being held for a new Nursery Cook and parents will be informed of these changes as soon as possible.
Back in summer, we held a vote on our social media accounts for your favourite Old Station Nursery recipes. We counted up the votes and sent in our parents’ favourite main, dessert and snack for the cookery book which Nursery Management Today were putting together. 50% of the profits made from the sales of this cookery cook will go to NHS Charities Together to support our amazing health care workers. We are extremely pleased that the some of the recipes we submitted have been chosen to be in this cookbook. We have pre-ordered our cookbook which should arrive to nursery in December. If you wish to order a book or learn more, visit NMT’s website here.
If you have time, we would be very grateful if you could leave us a review on Daynurseries. You can do this online by clicking here. Thank you for your continued support.
