November news

This month, the children at Heath Mill have been learning about Remembrance Day. Children made their own poppies to decorate their rooms and created lots of lovely pictures. All the children in the setting wore red and the children in Mr Messy’s took part in a two minutes silence.

The children also celebrated Bonfire Night this month. They created lots of sparkly firework pictures and talked about how to enjoy bonfires in a safe way.

This year for Children in Need, the children and staff came to nursery in their pyjama’s or something spotty. The children took part in lots of fun activities, including making Pudsey biscuits and colouring in a Pudsey bear. We raised a total of £26.50. Thank you to everyone that took part and for your kind donations.

Throughout November, the toddlers have been focusing on their speech and language, learning lots of new sounds and words. They had lots of fun exploring an arctic themed tuff tray; exploring the ice and learning what happens to the ice in different temperatures. Lots of new words were learnt through this activity, such as melting, freezing and slippery.

The children in preschool have been exploring shape, space and measure this month. They built rockets for Bonfire Night using different construction materials. The children looked at the different shapes they had made and the team also incorporated counting into this activity. They also had lots of fun doing some shape matching by cutting shapes out and gluing them onto the correct places on their very own rockets.

What’s coming up in December

December is going to be a very festive and busy month here at Heath Mill. We will participating in Christmas Jumper Day on the 11th December as well as a Polar Express Day, having Christmas dinner and, of course, making lots of lovely Christmas crafts. Dates of these will be confirmed very soon.

Our under 2’s will be exploring lots of new and exciting textures throughout December as they use their senses to explore lots of new and different medias. Our toddlers will be developing their mathematical skills by using a range of exciting resources and keeping to the festive theme. The preschool room will be focusing on writing during December. Looking at forming letters of their own names and giving meaning to the marks that they make. This will be done through writing lots of lovely letters to Father Christmas and creating lots of festive pictures.

We will also be taking part in The Old Station Nursery Group Christmas Advent Challenge. Each day in the lead up to Christmas, one nursery within the group will take part in a Christmas challenge and post a photo or video to our social media channels. We welcome parents to join in; tag us and use the hashtag #OSNAdventChallenge. For more information, take a look at our social media channels!

Other important information

We are very pleased to welcome Jon to our team. He will be taking the role of Nursery Cook when we sadly have to say goodbye to Sheila this week. Jon has over 15 years’ experience in the catering industry and also has two young children of his own. We are very excited to welcome him to our team.

We also welcome Shervon to the team who will be supporting the rooms across the nursery. She has 11 years’ experience within the childcare sector. Welcome to the team!

A reminder to our parents that we will be closing at 1pm on Christmas Eve. If you have not already done so, can you please let a member of management know if your child will be attending that day if this is their normal nursery day.
