Heath Mill June News: Sounds, Recycling and Children's Art Week

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

It has been so lovely to see so many returning children as well as some new faces in nursery!

The children have settled well into their ‘bubbles’ and the reopening of the nursery under our new COVID-19 operating procedures has been a success.

June news

This month, many of our younger children have been developing their understanding of different sounds. They have been listening out for environmental sounds in the garden as well as using instruments along with the CD player to make music. They have also been using the small world resources to learn new animals sounds from the farm and zoo.

Meanwhile, our 2-year olds have been exploring their physical skills; using the garden equipment to climb, riding bikes/scooters and throwing/catching different sized balls. They have also used recycled cardboard boxes to build large structures, using their imagination and critical thinking skills to plan out what they would like to build and think about how they could make a sturdy structure.

Finally, our preschool children have been practicing their literacy and numeracy skills by taking part in fun phonics and number games as well as using pencils and other handheld tools to make marks and build upon their handwriting skills.

The children have also celebrated Father’s Day by creating cards for the important male figures in their lives. The children used card, pencil crayons, lollipop sticks and glue to create ice lolly cards to say thank you for being the “coolest”. The children were very proud to share their creations with their families.

What’s coming up in July

Throughout July, we are very excited that most of our families will be returning to us and in turn, our team will continue to grow, meaning that our families will soon get to see more of the staff members that they have missed so dearly.

The children will be celebrating ‘Children’s Art Week’ and focusing on different themes each day. They will take part in different arts and crafts activities to include the natural world, connecting across generations and creative writing.

Other important information

Our team have been developing their knowledge on COVID-19 and how to protect themselves and the children during our time at nursery. Practitioners will continue to be trained in this area as they return to the setting.

Please could all parents ensure children have the appropriate outdoor attire for altering weather conditions e.g. sunhat, sun cream, wellies and raincoats/splash suits.
