Heath Mill June News: Caterpillars, Baking and Role Play

HM Water

Welcome to our June Newsletter! What glorious weather we have been having the last few weeks, the children here at Heath Mill have been taking full advantage of the glorious sunshine and getting out into the garden as much as possible.

June news

This month the children have been making the most of the lovely weather and have taken part in lots of different activities, from exploring medias such as water and foam, to getting active on the bikes and trikes.

All the children have also been very creative and made some lovely cards and presents ready to give to a special person on Father’s Day!

The children in our baby room have been continuing to explore and look at “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. They have welcomed 5 caterpillars into the room who have now turned into beautiful butterflies. They have enjoyed looking at the different colours and helping the staff in the room to look after them and help them grow!

In the toddler room this month the children have been taking part in lots of role play activities, such as playing doctors, hairdressers and cafés. This has helped the children in their communication and language skills encouraging them to talk about what they are doing.

This month in pre-school the children have been developing their shape, space, and measuring skills by baking lots of yummy cakes, measuring out the correct ingredients needed for the recipe. They have also taken part in shape hunts in the outdoor environment. The children recognised similarities in shapes in the environment around them.

What’s coming up next month

Next month all the rooms will be taking part in their very own beach parties! There will be lots of fun activities such as a paddling pool, making sandcastles and lots more. Dates for the parties will be released in due course.

On Friday 2nd July we will be holding a Rainbow Day for Cash for Kids. Cash for Kids is a local charity that is raising money to support children in the local area who have been affected by poverty, illness, neglect or that have additional needs. We are inviting children who attend on this day to come to Nursery dressed head to toe in bright colours. Colours will be confirmed in due course. We are also asking for a donation of £1 to help this amazing charity.

In July the babies will be focussing on the area of shape, space and measure. They will be learning all about the concept of big and small using lots of different objects. The older babies will be looking more closely at shape recognition through using shape sorters and being encouraged to recognise simple shapes.

The children in our toddler room will be concentrating on health and selfcare. They will be using different fruits to make their own smoothies, talking about the importance of eating healthily. They will also be focusing on potty training and encouraging them all to start using the potty.

In Pre-school the children will be exploring their feelings and emotions. Learning how to express our feelings appropriately and how to respond to the wishes and feelings of others.

Other important information

The last day of term for the children who attend term time only will be Wednesday 21stJuly. So, if your child attends on a term time only basis this will be the last day that they are able to come until the Autumn term starts again in September.

Can we also remind Parents that if you have not already done so could you please confirm the school that your child will be attending and the last day that they will be with us so that we are able to add it to our system.

We would like to thank you again as always for your ongoing support.
