Well, what a busy month we have had! From beach parties to supporting England in the Euro’s, the children have had lots of fun joining in in lots of different activities and being very creative. The children have also been showing their support to England in the Euro’s by coming into Nursery in their football tops or wearing red and white. They have made their own flags and had their own games of football in the nursery garden!
This month the babies have had lots of fun exploring shapes, spaces and measures. They have been completing jigsaws, completing shape sorters and filling and emptying during water play. This has helped the children develop their shape recognition skills by talking about the different shapes. It has also introduced them to quantity, talking about more, all gone, full and empty.
Our Toddler room have been taking part in lots of messy play activities such as cereal play, crazy soap, and glitter play. While taking part in these activities they have been encouraged to talk about how the different textures feel and use different describing words to promote their language.
Our Pre-school room have been learning about floating and sinking, they created their own pirate ships and raced them in the water against each other, using a straw to blow them. They have also been learning about what happens to ice, and have loved watching it melting and freezing.
What’s coming up next month
In August our babies will be focusing on expressive arts and design; they will be making their own musical instruments and using them to make sounds while joining in singing and doing the actions to various nursery rhymes. The practitioners will be encouraging the babies to talk about the sounds that the instruments make.
Our Toddler room will be focusing on physical development; the children will be able to take part in obstacle courses throughout the month to develop their physical skills. The practitioners will also be focusing on health and self-care by continuing to encourage potty training and encouraging children to become independent with dressing and hygiene routines.
Our Pre-school room will be focusing on literacy, so will be learning about rhyming words and alliteration through stories and activities such as ‘silly soup’ and ‘metal Mike’. They will also be starting to observe various letters in their names and have a go at writing and tracing their names and other letters of the alphabet.
Next month we will be very sad to be saying goodbye to our school leavers, we will be holding a Graduation party on Friday 13th August where they will be wearing graduation gowns and hats and having a little party with their friends. Details of this are yet to be confirmed in regard to restrictions that are in place.
