Heath Mill August News: Rhyming, Smoothies and Sport

HM August

Welcome to our August newsletter! This month has been a very busy and at times poignant month with lots of our lovely little ones leaving us to take on their next venture of going to school. We wish the all the best at their new schools and we are going to miss them very much.
August news

On Tuesday the 10th August we did a fancy dress day to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice. The children looked lovely in their fancy dress and we raised £55 altogether. Thank you all for your kind donations, it has gone to such a great cause.

This month the babies have been having lots of fun getting very creative! They have been exploring different medias using their senses and getting very messy, and have also been making their own musical instruments using lots of different medias to create lots of different sounds. They enjoyed listening and using them whilst they sang their favourite Nursery Rhymes.

The children in our toddler room have been getting very active this month. They have spent lots of time in our garden, taking part in obstacle courses, riding the bikes, and playing some football. They have been doing their exercises to a variety of different music and talking about how they feel after they have been doing their exercises. They have promoted healthy eating by using different fruits and making their very own delicious smoothies! The staff have also been promoting good hygiene practice, and the importance of why and when we wash our hands.

In our pre-school this month the children have been working on their literacy skills. They have been doing this by practising forming the letters of their names using lots of different medias, pens, pencils and using their fingers to practice forming the letters in flour and sand. They have also been looking closely at rhyming words through reading stories and picking out the words that sound the same and making up their own rhymes using words that sound the same.

What’s coming up next month

In September we will be inviting children and staff to dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl Characters for Roald Dahl Day on Monday 13th September. The children will be taking part in lots of different activities all to do with the many stories that Roald Dahl has written.

The children will also be taking part in recycling week. This will be taking place week commencing 20th September. Throughout the week the children will be learning all about recycling and the importance this has on our planet.

The babies will be getting creative and making trains, boats and tunnels out of different recycling materials. They will be using paint and other materials to decorate their creations.

The toddlers will be doing some junk modelling using lots of different types of recycling. They will be using their imaginations to create their own structures and using different medias to decorate their masterpieces! The children will also take part in short discussions and stories all about the importance of recycling.

In Pre-School, not only will they be taking part in junk modelling, but they will also be doing some recycling of their own. They will be making different bins for different recyclable materials and sorting through adding them to the correct. They will be taking part in lots of group discussions talking about the importance of recycling and how it helps our planet.
