Heath Mill April News: Earth Day, Keeping Fit and Exploring Spring

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

We hope that you all had a lovely Easter bank holiday and have been enjoying all the lovely Spring weather we have been having. Here at nursery, the children and team have been taking advantage of the glorious sunshine and spending lots of time in our outdoor area.

April news

This month, the children have celebrated Easter by doing a variety of lovely crafts and messy play activities using lots of different medias; from making bunnies out of different fruits, to getting messy with Spring coloured foam. The children also celebrated Earth Day on Thursday 22nd April, talking about our wonderful planet and the importance of looking after it. All of the children took part in some lovely activities, making their own planets out of various media’s such as paint and clay.

Throughout April, the babies have welcomed lots of new friends into the setting and have been taking part in lots of group activities such as singing, dancing and lots of messy play. This has helped develop some lovely new friendships and has helped our new little ones settle in.

The children in our toddler room have been getting fit and healthy this month. They have been doing lots of different exercises, from yoga to aerobics. The children have also done a fitness class in the garden in the lovely Spring weather. The children and team have thoroughly enjoyed getting fit and healthy as well as looking at the effects the exercise has had on their physical and mental wellbeing.

In April, the children in pre-school have been doing lots of exploring in the outdoor area, taking full advantage of the weather. They have talked about all of the changes to the leaves and the weather that happens during Spring. The children have really enjoyed exploring this topic.

What’s coming up next month

In May, the children will be celebrating International Nurses Day on Wednesday 12th May. This day is held on Florence Nightingale’s birthday to mark the contributions that nurses make to society, now more than ever during this global pandemic. The children will be taking part in role play activities, group discussions and making thank you posters to our amazing NHS Staff.

The babies will be continuing to welcome new friends and working on creating lovely bonds and new friendships with their peers and staff members.

The children in the toddler room will be talking about their different emotions, looking at what makes them happy, sad etc. The children will take part in group discussions, using the emotions puppets as well as taking part in role play activities

The children in pre-school will be working on their communication and speaking skills by participating in lots of group discussions on topics chosen by the children. The children will also take part in some singing activities as well as acting in the role play area.

Other important information

The nursery will be closed on Monday 3rd May and Monday 31st May for bank holidays.

Can we please ask parents to bring in sunhats and sun cream for their little ones now that the sun is shining and they are spending more time outside.

Thank you again for all your continued support.
