Harpole October News: Textures, Smoothies and Spaceships

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

Welcome to our October Newsletter! We have had such a busy month and the children have happily participated in many activities.

October news

In the baby room this month, the children have been having lots of fun exploring the textures of different materials. The babies have been using the “That’s Not My” books and attempting to name all the animals, people, and objects in the book. Practitioners have been describing the feeling of the materials to the children and the children have been feeling the materials and attempting to use language to describe the feeling. The babies have also been looking at fitting objects into correct spaces. They have been using puzzles to match objects into places and cardboard boxes to see if they can make dens and fit themselves into different sized spaces.

In the toddler room, the children have shown particular interest in space! The practitioners in the toddler room extended their learning by allowing them to make their own spaceships; they worked in teams to build spaceships and small world scenes. The children used different resources and discussed the different parts required to get them to space.

In the preschool room, the children have been focusing on healthy eating. The children have undergone many tasks separating foods into healthy and unhealthy categories. The children have discussed foods that may be unhealthy but can be had sometimes as a treat and foods that are healthy. We have also looked at different ways we can keep ourselves healthy looking at brushing teeth and exercising. The children used different fruits to make their own tasty smoothies, and then had these as a snack!

Next month, we are looking forward to celebrating many different festivals. We will be celebrating Diwali on the 4th November.
