In November, we celebrated Guy Fawkes by building a campfire, watching the flames and taking turns to roast marshmallows on it. The children also created some beautiful firework pictures to celebrate the story of Bonfire Night.
Throughout November, we also celebrated Remembrance Day which was a very special event at Filkins. The preschool children did 11 activities over 11 days to mark the occasion. The 2-3s also did some lovely activities and the whole nursery was full of a variety of poppies.
This month, we celebrated a German lantern festival called Martini. The children made their own lanterns, listened to some traditional songs and tried some traditional German food. We all had a lot of fun and it was great to learn about another culture and their celebrations.
What’s coming up in December
In December, the children will be doing lots of fun festive activities and helping to make the nursery look and feel Christmassy. Sadly, this year we will not be able to have our usual Christmas party in the village hall. Instead, we will be having some fun parties in the nursery but we will be keeping to our room bubbles. The parties will be on a couple of different days, so all children will be able to participate in the fun and games. These days are yet to be confirmed, but we will let parents know via email. The children are invited to dress up on these days in party clothes or in their Christmas jumpers.
Christmas Jumper Day is on Friday 11th December. We invite you all to come into nursery in your festive jumpers! We can’t wait to see them.
We will also be taking part in The Old Station Nursery Group Christmas Advent Challenge. Each day in the lead up to Christmas, one nursery within the group will take part in a Christmas challenge and post a photo or video to our social media channels. We welcome parents to join in; tag us and use the hashtag #OSNAdventChallenge. For more information, take a look at our social media channels!
Other important information
We would like to welcome Gail and Becki to our Filkins team! Gail will be working all day, 3 days a week in our 2-3s room. Gail is a Level 3 Practitioner and has lots of experience working in childcare as well as having her own grown-up children. Becki will be working as a bank member of our staff. She will help cover any annual leave, sickness, etc. She is also a Level 3 Practitioner and has worked in the childcare sector for many years as well as having a daughter who is in Reception. We warmly welcome you both to the Filkins family!
All parents should have received a letter about our new fogging machine. The fogging machine will completely sanitise the nursery rooms and outdoor play equipment in a safe and efficient way. The solution is a non-toxic PH neutral formulation so it can be used on all surfaces, including soft furnishings, textiles, wood, metal and plastic.
In January, another funding term starts. I have sent funding letters and school admission information to those it applies to. Please send funding letters back as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Please can I remind parents that our nursery fees are due on the 1st of each month, for that month. I understand that it may have been quite a challenging time over the past few months, especially with the uncertainty of Covid and the repercussions of it. If you are having difficulty keeping up with payments, please come and talk to me, this may prevent the £25 late payment charge being added to your monthly fees.
The last day of term for term time only children is the 18th December. The nursery closes for all other children at 1pm on the 24th December. We all return back on 4th January 2021.
Thank you so much for your continued support and doing everything you can to protect the children and our staff in these difficult times.
