Welcome to our May newsletter! Where did the sunshine disappeared to? It looks to be making a small reappearance and we very much hope that this continues in to June!
This month, the children in Preschool and the 2-3’s have been busy. The children have thoroughly enjoyed growing a variety of plants and vegetables in Forest School and taking part in different cooking activities. The children have also been busy caring for their tadpoles which have now started to transform into froglets! They also took part in lots of physical activities this month, including yoga, rugby, football, obstacle courses and many more.
Also in Preschool, the staff have been talking to the children about school, preparing them for their transition to make it an exciting and positive experience for everyone.
We also welcomed our new nursery chickens, Lynda and Louise, this month. They have settled in nicely and have been laying very well. The children have been taking good care of them and love collecting their eggs!
We said a sad farewell to Sophie at the start of May and wished her well in her new venture. I am very excited to be stepping into the Nursery Manager role and continuing to maintain the high quality of care we provide here at Filkins. We have a fantastic team and such lovely families, and I know I will be fully supported by everyone.
We also welcomed Donna back to Filkins in May after she took time off after having her little boy, Milo. Donna will be working every Monday in the 2-3’s room until July when she will be working Monday – Wednesday.
What’s coming up next month
Next month, the children will be celebrating Father’s Day. The children will use their creative and imaginative skills to create some beautiful gifts and crafts for a special someone. We wish all the daddy’s and Grandad’s a very happy Father’s Day when it arrives!
Now that some COVID restrictions been lifted, we hope (when the weather improves!) to take the children on walks around the village, visit the local park and woodland area in Filkins. We are very excited to be able to do this again as it has such a big impact on the children’s learning and development. It gives the children the opportunity to explore and learn in a different environment. Staff will continue to maintain our high standards of precautions to reduce the risk of infection and necessary risk assessments will be carried out.
Other important information
We would like to thank you for continuing to observe social distancing and wearing a face mask/face covering during drop offs/ pick-ups. Staff are also continuing to do COVID lateral flow tests every week, to ensure we are doing everything we can to keep everyone safe from the virus.
Please can we ask you to stop your child/ children from pushing over and climbing on the goal post on the playing field, this is village property.
Can I also remind you to close the gates to the road behind you, ensuring they are on the latch – thank you.
A small reminder that Monday 31st May is a bank holiday and nursery will be closed for the day. June half term is also quickly approaching and will be from Tuesday 1st June to Friday 4th June.
Thank you all for your continued support.
