Welcome back to nursery! The staff would like to thank you for their Christmas presents and cards over the festive period. It was very kind and thoughtful, so thank you all so very much. It has been lovely to hear all the children’s voices again around nursery, telling us what they got up to over Christmas.
We would also like to warmly welcome all of our new children and parents to our Filkins family. We hope you enjoy your time with us, as there is lots of fun things happening this term. The children are already settling in so well, forming strong bonds with the nursery team and their peers.
We would also like to welcome Kelis who has started working with us as a bank member of our team. She has worked at our Bampton nursery before, so she knows all about The Old Station Nursery Group. Kelis is Level 2 qualified and will be working as and when needed to help with staff days off and holidays.
Thank you to all our families for being patient and understanding with us through these uncertain times. Sadly, we are still under strict guidelines but hugely appreciate all of your help and support, to keep our children and staff safe. The staff are working so hard to keep up with strict hygiene and cleanliness throughout the nursery. I am sure you will join me in thanking them all for their hard work.
In January, the children all enjoyed participating in RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch. All the children in the nursery participated. They started off by making binoculars, going outside to see which birds they could see and hear, and ticking them off their list. The children did lots of bird watching throughout the month; we are lucky to be in the countryside so the children saw lots of different varieties. The children also made lots of different bird feeders and enjoyed watching the birds using them.
Throughout January, the children also participated in lots of art activities themed around The Big Schools Birdwatch. The children enjoyed listening games and bird puzzles, stories and discussions. Wildlife, birds and the great outdoors has been a fantastic theme this month and one which everyone enjoyed!
What’s happening in February
February is going to be another busy month. We have lots of events to celebrate which bring with them new experiences and opportunities for the children. During February, the children will celebrate Chinese New Year. They will be engaging in lots of craft activities and discussions to celebrate this event and further expand the children’s knowledge.
We shall, of course, be celebrating Pancake Day. The children will taste some pancakes as well as enjoying pancake races with their friends. Also in February, the children will celebrate Valentine’s Day. The children will be making something special for their loved ones.
There will be lots of other exciting activities going on throughout the month as always, such as Forest School, activities outside, craft activities, games, stories and much more. It is going to be a fun and busy few weeks!

Please can I remind you to bring in a warm coat and hat for the children. Please make sure they are labelled. It would also be great if the hats could stay in their bags at nursery.
