December News: Christmas Activities, Sensory Bottles and Elves

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

December news

We have had an amazing December at Small Friends!

We have all had lots of fun with a variety of activities and experiences for the children to enjoy and engage in. Party week was a real highlight. Jackie, our Nursery Cook, had taken the time to speak to the children at the beginning of the month to ask what their favourite foods and drinks are from our menus and she created a special week full of their favourites!

The children have loved getting involved in arts and crafts, dancing, role play and many other activities. Christmas and the month of December hasn’t been quite what we thought but we hope that we have provided some great times and experiences for the children.

The children in the Butterfly room have really enjoyed Elf week! Our funny Elf has been getting involved in all activities with the children. He has enjoyed hot chocolate and marshmallows and even a Christmas dinner. He has been a fantastic role model, sitting nicely at circle time and listening carefully to the children’s favourite stories.

The children in the Caterpillar room have really enjoyed making their sensory bottles this month. We have sensory bottles at nursery and the children really benefit from these throughout the day. Lucy thought it would be great if the children could make their own, choose their own colours and having these to take home as Christmas gifts!

What’s coming up in January

During January, we are going to be exploring journeys as a topic. Week by week, we will be looking at travel by road, train, sea and air – and anything else that captures the children’s interest as we will always be led by them.

We look forward to sharing photos and more details of our topic throughout January, as it evolves with the children’s imaginations and interests!

Other important information

We have a new staff member starting in January 2021. Her name is Rebecca and she is qualified and well experienced in working in nurseries. I will start to introduce her to you all over the first few weeks of January. We very much look forward to her joining the team!

Unfortunately, Leah is leaving us at the end of December as she is due to have her baby in January. I will give you an update when I hear of her new arrival. I am sure you will join me in wishing Leah well for the future. We will miss her as she is an integral part of the Small Friends team.

We have had some lovely Christmas gifts given to us which is so kind of you all. Thank you so much! Our last day before Christmas is the 23rd December and we reopen again on the 4th January 2021. From all of us at Small Friends, we hope you have a really lovely Christmas.
