We have enjoyed a really relaxed few weeks at nursery, with smaller groups of children than normal we have been able to enjoy some trips out into the local environment to feed the ducks (and pesky pigeons!). The children have also taken part in lots of home from home activities such as baking, we even hired a bouncy castle for the children to enjoy! I say children but I know the adults had lots of fun too, and just to finish it off we are having a yummy ice cream van visit, it is the summer holidays after all!
The Hedgehog room have been busy re-creating their beach experiences, with a mirrored table, lots of shells and sand, pretend crabs, and my favourite part, our practitioners trying to retell the tongue twister “she sells sea shells on the sea shore”; as I’m sure you can imagine this is very entertaining! The babies also went on a trip out of nursery to buy some soil and pretty flowers for their new planter which is in their little garden.
Over in Robins the children have a real interest in all things insects, spending lots of time in the garden has really encouraged the children to take notice of the bees, butterflies and snails. There are some lovely salt dough creations of these on display which the children have decorated with paint and glitter, Gemma is going to get some baby caterpillars on order whilst this interest is still hot so they can observe the transformation from caterpillars to butterflies.
Squirrels and Foxes have spent lots of time together with their holiday club friends. They have been making everybody hungry with the smell of their amazing blackberry pie! They collected the berries themselves, then helped turn them into a sweet sensation with the help of our practitioners. They have also been exploring different textured playdough using oats and granola.
What’s coming up next month
Before we know it September will be upon us and we will be welcoming back old and new children and families. Term officially starts on the 6th September for our term time only children. We can’t wait to hear all about your summer adventures.
On Monday 20th September we will be taking part in the fun holiday “Talk like a pirate day” where our practitioners will be addressing children “ahoy me hearties” and enjoying some funny rhymes and stories throughout the day! If you are partial to a bit of fancy dress feel free to be creative with choice of clothing.
With the worlds biggest coffee morning taking place on Saturday 25th September, we will be celebrating with Macmillan a day early on Friday 25th September, having a little cake stall out the front of the nursery so don’t forget to bring some pennies if you would like to purchase a little something yummy on your way past or to the nursery, and contribute to a very important cause in the process. Lets see what lovely baking our Sandhills team can produce!
Other important information
This month we have set a little practitioner challenge to reflect on how best we facilitate children’s learning using their interests, if you would like to nominate a team member for their great practice please do send me an email and I will make sure that praise is known.
Our wonderful Katie Scott will also be delivering an outdoor training session to the staff team in September which will be lots of fun!
And while we are on the subject of recognition I’d like to congratulate our Hedgehog room leader Jordan Butler for receiving Employee of the month! With her fantastic observations on the wider staff team.
Thank you all for your recent reviews on Google, Facebook or Daynurseries.co.uk. Your kind words and feedback really do make our day and we really appreciate the time spent on leaving us a review. If you haven’t yet had the chance to write a review and would like to, we would be very grateful. You can do this on Google, Facebook or Daynurseries.co.uk
A reminder for those children who attend on a term time only basis, the new term starts back on Thursday, 2ndSeptember.
Finally, if your child is leaving us at the end of this term to move up to school, their last day will be 31st August unless you have told us otherwise. If your child is not starting school straight away and you would like them to come to us for any additional sessions early in September, do let me know so that I can check our availability.
