Barnt Green October News: Construction, Pancakes and Pictures

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

Welcome to our October Newsletter! We have been enjoying lots of autumnal walks around Alvechurch whilst our refurbishment at Barnt Green is ongoing. We have been finding conkers and different coloured leaves to make autumn collages and painting with. We have been carving pumpkins and talking about Halloween and autumn.

October news

Babies have been really enjoying lots of construction, exploring different sizes and shapes and making towers using blocks and stacking rings, the babies have been encouraged to share these resources during activities. Babies have also explored mark making using different media, such as damp sand, paint and drawing which has ignited their exploratory senses.

Toddlers have enjoyed exploring the local environment and talking about the changes in the weather and environment. They have used leaves and conkers to make their autumn pictures and explored mixing colours together when conker painting. Toddlers have put on their rainsuits and enjoyed splashing in the puddles that have been made by the rain.

Preschool have enjoyed lots of role-play this month, exploring different occupations and imitating real life careers like cooking and being teachers. Preschool have then enjoyed making their own pancakes, talking about the ingredients, mixing the ingredients together and watching the pancakes cook. This then led onto a group discussion about keeping safe, for example not touching hot objects.

What’s coming up next month

We have lots of exciting days to look forward to in November!

In November we will be celebrating Diwali on the 4th November, where the children will be taking part in a range of activities to learn about Diwali and how it is celebrated. We will be talking about bonfire night and fireworks, using a range of media to create our own firework pictures. This will also give us opportunity to talk about keeping safe around bonfires. On the 11th we will encourage the children to observe Remembrance Day and give them opportunity to make their own poppies.

The 13th November is World Kindness Day so we will be promoting activities and holding discussions about being kind, using kind hands and words and how about words and actions can make others feel.  On the 19th November, it is Children In Need, a poster will be displayed at nursery when we return to Barnt Green to inform you of what activities will be taking place to help raise funds for charity.

Other important information

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone at Alvechurch for making us feel so welcome and for accommodating us over the last two months but we are very excited to welcome you all back to Barnt Green. Once we have settled fully back in we are looking to hold an open morning/day to give you opportunity to come and have a look at our lovely refurbishment for yourselves.

We would like to welcome Claire and Emma to the staff team, Claire will be based in Bumps with Becky after Morgan’s recent promotion to nursery manger and Emma will be based in the baby unit. We also want to say congratulations to Caitlin who has revealed she is having a baby boy, we can’t wait to meet him.

We hope that everyone has settled into the new term well. It is a delight to see so many happy faces around nursery! We would be thrilled if you could leave us a review on Daynurseries, Google or Facebook. To leave a review on Daynurseries click here.

Did you know that we have a refer a friend scheme? When you refer a friend to join the nursery, we will thank you with a £100 credit on your next invoice. Ask your Nursery Manager for more details.

Thank you as always for your continued support.
