Barnt Green June News: Music, Dinosaurs and Dough Disco

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

June has definitely been a month of practising the new normal; the children have been amazing and have taken everything in their stride.

The staff here are so proud of all the children and how well they have adapted to the new normal leaving mummies and daddies at the door and coming in to nursery so grown up.

June news

This month, the babies favourite thing to do is singing and dancing. Moving to music and joining in with actions during song time. The babies are beginning to recognise number through singing lots of number songs, joining in with counting claps.

The toddlers have loved returning to nursery and seeing all their friends. They have been sharing how their language and other skills have developed over lockdown. The toddlers have been really engaged in dough disco; each child has their own dough and sing songs whilst moulding the dough in different ways. This is a really fun way to develop their fine motor skills.

The preschool children have enjoyed talking about keeping their teeth healthy and really enjoyed role play as dinosaur dentists. The discussion between the children included what happens if we don’t brush our teeth, what causes our teeth to go bad and how we can keep our teeth healthy and clean. The children used their past experiences in their play.

Preschool have also enjoyed playing in the sunshine and a favourite activity has been to paint with water; painting their names, practising their letter sounds and then watching them dry in the sunshine.

What’s coming up in July

We can’t wait to welcome back more of our children and learn about what they have been getting up to whilst in lockdown.

We are hoping for lots of sunshine so that we can have many learning opportunities outside and, of course, summer would not be summer without sports day. Sports day will be a little different this year as, unfortunately, we will not be able to invite all the mummies and daddies along to cheer the children on. Fear not, the races will go on and our future athletes will compete in some small races daily over the week commencing 13th July so that all children will be able to participate at some point. Photos/videos will be loaded to eyLog for parents to view.

Other important information
