|June has been full of lovely sunshine. The builders have been busy starting on our new outdoor area and with their hard work brought entertainment and interest with scaffolding and various machinery for the children to watch, question and wonder about. We have been welcoming lots of children again this month to join our ever-growing nursery family, and I am pleased to say everyone is settling in well.
Our preschool and toddlers have been focusing on self help skills this month! The children help to set the table at mealtimes and are self-serving their meals, giving the children opportunity to share their likes and dislikes and to try new foods. The mealtimes are sociable, and the children are developing good coordination as they choose their food items and scoop them onto their plates.
From watching the builders outside in the garden and from the windows, the babies have become non-stop builders themselves! The staff have set up construction areas for them to build in, and we’ve seen some wonderful towers. The babies were able to show understanding of numbers, as they would count 1, 2 ,3, 4 as they balanced the blocks.
During the hot weather the babies have enjoyed lots of water play to try and keep cool. They have been filling and emptying different containers with water, with the practitioners modelling aquatic animal sounds and names and singing songs. The babies have had lots of fun trying out some yoga, following the practitioners examples to stretch and move.
Toddlers have been making the most of the sunshine with lots of sand play, creating sandcastles and splashing about in the water. Many of the children have shared how they have visited the zoo or farm with their families, and discussed what they saw, and which animal was their favourite. The children made some lovely pictures of these animals to display. Leading up to Father’s Day, the children shared their favourite thing to do with Daddy; a lot of them said playing football or going to the park!
There have been lots of celebrations these past months with children turning four, so we have enjoyed lots of conversations and party games to celebrate these momentous occasions for our children. Preschoolers have also been learning about growth and been busy planting, observing grass and sunflowers as they start to sprout. The preschoolers also began to explore what our plants need to grow, and recognised that like themselves, plants need water and time to get bigger!
The children have been working hard practising their mark making and writing, they have asked for support in writing out some simple sentences from discussion based around Father’s Day and their Daddies.
What’s coming up next month
We are all really looking forward to July, hoping it brings lots of sunshine so we can enjoy the outdoors. Lots more children are joining us, so we are very excited to welcome them too. For others it will be their last few weeks so we will be making them as enjoyable as possible, so watch this space for events being planned over the coming month.
Other important information
Please do inform the nursery if your child will not be attending due to a planned holiday or day trip out. It’s our safeguarding policy to keep children safe and if due to be in nursery and absent we will give you a call to check all is well. So that we don’t interrupt any family time, please let us know when you will be absent from nursery.
For preschool parents with children leaving for school in September, please do let us know what their last day at nursery will be as soon as you know.
Thank you so much for all your continued support!
