Barnt Green February News: Pancakes, Fundraising and Chinese New Year

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

February news

We have had another fun filled month throughout February celebrating a range of different events and festivals. The children have enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year, engaging in Pancake Day activities, and getting very creative for Valentine’s Day

As a nursery on Friday 5th February, we had a fundraising day for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund. The children had a lovely day with red themed activities and even had a red party at tea time with red foods to eat. Thank you for all of your kind donations, together we raised £45 for this fantastic cause.

This month, the babies have welcomed some new friends, all of whom are settling in really well, creating close bonds with their new friends and the nursery team. The babies thoroughly enjoyed creating and tasting pancakes last week! The best part was most definitely the variety of toppings to try. Everyone was able to taste all of the toppings, such as, banana, chocolate, sugar sprinkles, honey and syrup. During Children’s Mental Health Week, the babies enjoyed some baby yoga and some calming 1:1 time. The babies have also created their family photo board this month which the babies love to look at, pointing out who they recognise as well as using sounds and language to indicate who they are.

Throughout February, the toddlers have been busy creating lots of artwork around shapes and colour. The children have been busy making a display in the room so they can see and display all of their artwork. The toddlers also enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year; they created Chinese lanterns and thoroughly enjoyed messy noodle play in their role play kitchen!

This month, the preschool children engaged in a number of activities associated with Children’s Mental Health Week. The children spoke about their dreams, worries and all of the good things they have in life. A lot of their dreams were that they would become a superhero and enjoy saving the world. The good things they commented on were their homes, families and nursery, where they like to play with their friends. Worries they shared were of not being able to see people at the moment, which I’m sure a lot of us can also relate to.

Preschool had a great day celebrating Pancake Day. They made their own pancakes by visiting the ‘preschool pancake café’. The children talked about all their favourite toppings and then created a yummy pancake full of these. The children discussed healthy choices but also that it is ok to have treats sometimes too. Chocolate, strawberries, banana and marshmallows were a firm favourite. The children then took their frying pans outdoors and took part in some pancake races which were great fun.

What’s coming up in March

As much as we all loved the snow and the outdoor activities involved, we are hoping for a warmer month so that we can engage the children in different quality time outdoors. We are looking forward to planting the garden so that the children can watch their flowers grow.

We will be starting the month by learning about St David’s Day which takes place on the 1st March. We will be having a yellow themed day where we invite the children to wear yellow to nursery to brighten the day come rain or shine.

Other important information

Preschool are developing their home corner area and are in need of loose parts. If anyone has an old kettle, toaster, hand mixer, pots pans, utensils of any sort, baking trays or cake tins, we would really appreciate them. We are also developing the dressing up area so if you have any handbags, hats, scarves, bangles, scrunchies or beads ribbons that you no longer use or wear, we would be grateful for them to add to our real life areas.

Thank you all for your continued support.
