Welcome to our August Newsletter! Whilst we haven’t had as much sunshine as we’d hoped for, it hasn’t stopped lots of garden time and fun activities. The children have thoroughly enjoyed chalking hopscotch games, continued to challenge their physical skills by using the balance beam and listening to all the sounds in the environment, including seeing and hearing horses pass by!
We have celebrated our Pre-schoolers leaving for school through their Graduation this month. We are very proud of each and every one of them and so excited for them to take the next step in their journey. The children received their certificates and performed a song they have had much delight in singing and dancing to during their nursery time. We hope all parents and carers enjoyed viewing the videos. The children enjoyed a party tea before taking some treasured memories home to share with their families.
The babies have enjoyed lots of stories, cuddles and songs. They are really trying to join in with the actions and the songs by making lots of sounds. They have been busy exploring textures with their feely bags and also lots of messy play such as, Gloop (cornflour and water), sand and shaving foam. The babies are beginning to learn the concept of numbers through building with the wooden blocks, playing alongside the practitioners who role model numbers. The babies have started saying numbers as they build, or the younger ones attempting to by making sounds as they balance blocks.
Toddlers have been focusing on lots of different turn taking activities learning to share by waiting for their go, and also watch as their friends have their turn. We have played games such as pop-up pirate pass the parcel and a fishing game. We have enjoyed small world play using figures to create our own scenarios.
We are looking forward to our adventures next month as we move to Alvechurch and step into Autumn where we will be watching the changes in the environment and discussing colours of the leaves, and hopefully take some walks down the lane by the Alvechurch Nursery to see for ourselves the changes Autumn brings.
We have been continuing with our interest in space and talking about aliens making our own aliens from playdough using various materials to create features. We have searched for rocket launches and viewed some on the tablet which was amazing. We have enjoyed space yoga, space phonics, and even counting back from ten in rocket launches. We have encouraged children’s creativity using junk modelling creating astronaut helmets, rockets, and spaceships.
Next month we are excited to welcome our younger children into preschool and begin promoting all areas of independence in the preparation for school. We will follow the children’s interests to promote literacy and mathematics to create the foundations needed for school.
What’s coming up next month
The most exciting times are ahead, as the nursery refurbishment will commence from Monday 6th September. From this date we will be based at Alvechurch, and we are so excited to see the end result when we move back. In the mean time, please be reassured we are doing everything we can to keep the move disruption to a minimum whilst at Alvechurch. We hope the children will enjoy the new environment and the new areas to explore.
Other important information
We have had lots of goodbyes this month with our pre-schoolers leaving for school and some much loved staff leaving to take on new adventures and challenges. They will all be missed and I’m sure will miss you all very much.
For holidays and days absent from nursery, please inform nursery if your child will not be attending due to a planned holiday or day trip out. It’s our safeguarding policy to keep children safe and if due to be in nursery and absent we will give you a call to check all is well. So that we don’t interrupt any family time please let us know when you will be absent from nursery.
Just a quick note of thanks on a personal level to everyone who has wished myself well on my new adventure. Deciding to leave Sandhills after 14 years was not an easy decision however with an opportunity offered to balance my work life and home life was something I had to do. I will miss everyone at Sandhills, it’s been my second home and given me so many opportunities and memories that will be treasured. I send my best wishes and thanks to all parents and children as I go.
