Hello all, welcome to our April newsletter. Where have to months gone?! April has been a busy month; we have been celebrating Easter and have spent lots of time in the garden due to the sunny (and snowy!) weather. I would like to say a big welcome to all of our new families that have recently joined us. All of the children are settling in so well.
Over the past month, the children in the baby room have been exploring various textures. In the tuff tray, they have been playing with lentils, flour, dried spaghetti, water and chalks. Using a variety of tools to scoop, mix and pour which has helped to develop their hand and eye coordination as well as their fine motor skills.
Both rooms celebrated Easter during April. All of the children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a variety of Easter crafts and an Easter egg hunt.
As our COVID restrictions are easing slightly, we have now been able to introduce self-serving into the 2-4 room. This has been a big focus for this age group over the past month. This promotes the children’s independence, allowing them to choose which foods they would like on their plates as well as how much.
What’s coming up next month
Looking forward to May, both the baby room and the 2-4 room will be taking part in National Pet Month. Please look out for an email with more information on this. We have chosen to take part in this event following inspiration from the new additions in the 2-4 room, the baby guinea pigs. All of the children have loved watching them grow and have played a large role in caring for them. We have now found new homes for the babies.
As the ‘Bear Hunt’ is a favourite story book in the 2-4 room, in May, we are planning some Bear Hunt themed activities for the children to engage with, such as: a teddy bears picnic, a teddy bear hunt and crafting teddy bears. The baby room will also be having their own teddy bear picnic.
Other important information
We would like to welcome Alisha to the baby room. Alisha is NVQ Level 2 qualified and is working Monday, Thursday and Fridays. A very warm welcome!
Alison, Fiona and Alisha have completed their first aid course this month. This means that all employees now hold their paediatric first aid certificate.
With the weather getting warmer, could you please bring in a named sunhat for your child to stay at nursery. We provide factor 50 Nivea sun cream at nursery but if your child cannot have this, could you please provide an alternative.
Just a reminder that the 3rd and the 31st of May are bank holidays and the nursery will be closed on these days.
We would like to say a big farewell to Sophie and Hannah. Their last week will be the week commencing the 10th May. We wish them all the best in their new roles.
Thank you all for your continued support.
Katie Houghton, Deputy Nursery Manager
