We have had a fantastic and fun filled August!
Our topic of ‘Space’ has been received by the children even better than we anticipated. The children have been engaged, absorbed and really enjoying learning about the planets and solar system through so many different activities. The children have participated in activities such as; signing new songs (‘Zoom, Zoom Zoom’ being one of the Caterpillars favourites); using different materials to make rockets; experiments; learning about historical events (first walk on the moon); tuff tray themed set ups to engage the children’s curiosity and attention; and I think one of our favourite experiences was watching the live rocket launch! And, of course, enjoying rocket lollies on hot days to keep us cool.
We have introduced water back into our core provision, ensuring it is changed between groups of children to minimise any possible risks – and we have really needed it this month because the weather has been so hot! We started off with water in the water tray, tipping and pouring, floating and sinking. This was soon extended to paddling in the water tray and tuff tray; further extended to adding ice; and then finally to full body water play and sprays to keep us as cool as possible.
The water sprays really do help to build up the small finger muscles which is a pre-requirement for early writing skills – learning through play and having fun!
What’s coming up in September
Our topic for September is going to be based around ‘Our World’ so we will be looking at our community and where we live. Themes and activities will be centered around re-cycling. The children really love animals and play with the animals a lot so we will look at animals in more detail, both here and around the world. We will also focus on cultures and languages this month as many of our children have dual language.
If there is anything specific you would like to see us do or provide for the children, please do let us know.
Other important information
We continue to say goodbye to our school leavers and we have scheduled some parties throughout August and September to ensure that all the children can get involved. We have received some lovely cards with very kind words and some gifts, which is so thoughtful. We have really enjoyed caring for the children, watching them grow and develop during their time with us at Small Friends.
We welcomed Katie back to work this month with the Butterfly group. It is lovely to have her back and she is really enjoying seeing the children and catching up with them about their achievements and experiences.
Can I remind you all to provide your child with enough nappies for the day (if you bring these daily) and to provide wipes and nappy cream. The nursery does not supply these and we don’t hold spares, so please ensure these are labelled to avoid mix ups.
We are on the second month of using the new finance system. I am confident with this now and I have fantastic support if there are areas which I am unsure of. I just wanted to say thank you for your patience with me. As always, if you have any questions regarding your invoice, payments, Early Years funding or anything, please just get in touch and ask me.
We are now on Twitter, so please do follow us to keep up to date with all our latest insights, news and blogs! You can follow us by clicking here. We also have a company LinkedIn page and you can follow us by clicking here.
If you have time, we would be very grateful if you could leave us a review on Daynurseries. You can do this online by clicking here. Thank you for your continued support.
