November news

Firstly, we would like to thank all of our children, parents and nursery team for taking part in fundraising for Children in Need. We managed to raise a total of £69.50 which is amazing, well done!

This month, we have also celebrated Bonfire Night with the children by making food sparklers, watching fireworks, listening to the sounds they made and creating beautiful bonfire pictures.

We joined the rest of the village by placing poppies in our windows for Remembrance Day this month. The pre-school children had a discussion about what they thought Remembrance Day meant and they all shared their own ideas during circle time.

We also celebrated Diwali in November. The babies created candles, the toddles made some tea light paper plates and our pre-schoolers drew around their own hands in order to create their own henna patterns.

Throughout November, the children and team in Mr Smalls have welcomed a lot of new babies to our family and they have all created lovely bonds with the other children and nursery team. The babies have been developing their gross motor skills this month, with lots of babies learning to crawl, stand unaided and becoming confident on their feet; taking those very important first few steps and becoming independent. Well done!

The children in Mr Tickles have been working on their speech development during November, using a variety of resources. The children are beginning to understand simple questions and answer them with their own thoughts. They have been looking at flash cards and starting to understand what things are and give them their correct names. We have also been developing their speech though songs, rhymes and stories.

In Mr Bumps this month, the children have been exploring their environment outside, making use of the field, nature garden and playground. The children have been learning to develop and use open space and resources provided for them in order to support their physical skills and imagination. The children are able to move around obstacles safely and are being more aware of their surroundings.

The children in Mr Chatterboxes have been discovering small world in a variety of different ways during November. The children have been using their imaginations, sharing ideas and supporting their friends during play. They have been enjoying box play, where the children have made trains, boats, houses, castles, a bus and tents. The children have some wonderful imaginative ideas!

Throughout November, in Mr Busy’s, the children have been enjoying lots of craft activities, using a range of media and materials. They have been understanding the use of different tools and learning they can be used for different purposes with different media. They have created some lovely art work!

In Mr Messys, the children have been working on their writing skills this month, learning and recognising their names. The children have been working hard to develop their tripod grip when using writing toolsThe children are working so hard on their letter formation, we are very proud. The children have also been learning letters and sounds aided by watching jolly phonics. The children have become familiar with all the different sounds of each letter sound.

We would like to congratulate Kelly and Kirsty, who work in Mr Messy (our pre-school), on receiving Employee of the month for November. They have both worked extremely hard and have settled in our new pre-schoolers amazingly. Well done ladies!

We would like to welcome to our nursery team Caitlin, who will be based working in Mr Tickles, alongside Lauren and Leighann.

What’s coming up in December

Our team have been working hard with the children to create lots of Christmas art work. Our nursery team will be decorating the nursery on Friday 27th November, ready to celebrate Christmas here at Sandhills. We will be sending out a video of our decorated nursery to all our parents to see what lovely creations the children have made.

During December, the whole nursery will be doing a range of different Christmas activities with the children on a daily basis, getting them all ready and excited for Christmas. We will be having our annual Christmas fun week from Monday 14th December to Friday 18th December. Each day we have allocated something special, so that we can all celebrate and get into the Christmas festivities.

We will also be taking part in The Old Station Nursery Group Christmas Advent Challenge. Each day in the lead up to Christmas, one nursery within the group will take part in a Christmas challenge and post a photo or video to our social media channels. We welcome parents to join in; tag us and use the hashtag #OSNAdventChallenge. For more information, take a look at our social media channels!

Other important information
