Alvechurch May News: Communication, Baking and Messy Play

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

Well, what a month! The weather has been very wet and windy, but this hasn’t stopped the children from having amazing experiences here at nursery. The children have been enjoying the wet weather; running in the rain, jumping in puddles and enjoying watching the rain falling from the windows.

May news

In the 0-2s this month, the children have been enjoying lots of messy play; exploring sand, water, shredded paper and paint. The babies have become very mobile recently and have been enjoying making marks as they move. They have enjoyed observing the marks that their movements leave behindThis month, the babies have also welcomed back Lucy C (Deputy Manager), who has returned from maternity leave and will be working in Mr. Tickles. Welcome back to the team!

The 2-3s have been enjoying lots more focus activities this month, introducing circle time and have discussions with the children following their interests. The children have become a lot more confident with their communication towards others and have felt confident to take part within the focus activities. We have been talking about different emotions, looking at representing numbers and self-care. The children have done amazingly with this.

Throughout May in the 3-4s, the children have been enjoying lots of baking. The children have been involved in the whole process of baking, learning about what different tools are used for and looking at how to use the scales to measure the ingredients. The children have been working hard together during these activities, demonstrating good sharing and being kind towards their friends. The children have been demonstrating great language skills and thinking of great ideas too.

What’s coming up next month

Next month brings lots of creativity as the children prepare their cards and gifts for Father’s Day.

The babies will be exploring the outside environment throughout June, looking at lots of different natural resources. This will also be exploring play on the field and nature garden.

Next month, the toddlers are focusing on shapes, looking at how they can use them to create different arrangements and experimenting ways to make building balance.

The children in Pre-school will be focusing on their tripod-grip in June. The children will be looking at letter formation skills and learning how to hold their tripod with confidence.

Other important information

Can we please remind parents that if children are playing on the field after nursery, please park down the lane, as those parents still needing to collect their children don’t’ have anywhere to park. Please no parking on the grass as the children use this area daily.

Can we also remind parents to provide appropriate outdoor clothing, such as sun hats and sun cream, so that the children can explore outdoors. Thank you!

A small reminder that it is bank holiday on Monday 31st May and so the nursery will be closed.

Thank you for your continued support.

Emma Cockerill- Maher, Deputy Nursery Manager
