The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

December news

As the children arrived back to nursery the first week of December, they were all so excited to see the nursery fully decorated to begin our festive celebrations this month.

This month, as a nursery, we have been getting the children ready for Father Christmas. The children have been enjoying a variety of Christmas activities every day, getting creative and using their imaginations. They have been baking, making their own Christmas decorations, enjoying stories and singing songs. The children have even been making their letters to send to Father Christmas too!

Everyone has had a fabulous Christmas fun week; the children have been enjoying a wide range of different activities, a pyjama day and a Polar express experience; where the children enjoyed a hot chocolate and a Christmas film. All of the children and staff showed off their fabulous Christmas jumpers and enjoyed some Christmas crafts too.

Our Nursery Chef, Lisa, cooked a very festive Christmas menu for us to enjoy Christmas dinner together. The children have also enjoyed a Christmas fancy dress day; the children have loved dressing up in their favourite outfits and playing some imaginative role play games too. To end our Christmas fun week, we celebrated with our annual Christmas party, with lots of party food, dancing and games.

The children in Mr Smalls (0-2s) have been enjoying exploring a range a sensory play this month, supporting the babies to become confident with different textures. This has also been helping the staff to form relationships with the new babies. The babies have all been developing their gross motor movements, such as rolling, sitting, crawling and walking. The children have also been exploring through lots of different Christmas decorations, looking at the lights and tinsel, exploring how it all feels.

Throughout December, the children in Mr. Tickles (0-2s) have been exploring lots of different treasure baskets, offering the children a wide range of media and materials to discover. The children have also been continuing to work on their vocabulary, using lots of different resources to encourage this. They have also enjoyed making gifts, Christmas cards and calendars for all parents.

In Mr. Bumps (2-3s) and Mr. Chatterboxes, the children have been enjoying a wide range of different festive activities from sensory tuff trays, biscuit baking, card making, wreath building, singing carols and decorating trees. The children have been having a wonderful time working on their gross and fine motor movements throughout all of these activities.

This month, the children in Mr. Busys (3-4s) have been baking gingerbread men and women, making playdough and enjoying more Christmas activities. The children have been working on their fine motor skills using tripod grip and getting creative mark making Christmas pictures. The children have also been enjoying Christmas fun week, enjoying hot chocolates, party day, Christmas stories and fancy dress; showing us their favourite dressing up clothes!

The children in Mr. Messy’s (3-4s) have been enjoying practicing their Christmas carols and have enjoyed singing them with their friends. The children have also been busy getting creative with lots of Christmas activities, such as the Christmas small world village inside the tuff tray; this has been extending the children’s imagination and language skills.

You might have seen that at the start of the month we announced that our employee of the month for November was awarded to Lauren, who works in Mr Tickles. We wanted to show our appreciation for Lauren for her outstanding practice while running the baby room when staff have been off. Lauren has been working hard and has helped settle in our new babies. Congratulations Lauren and thank you for all of your continued hard work. We will be announcing December’s employee of the month at the start of January!

What’s coming up in January

We look forward to all of our families returning for New Year.

We have plenty of wonderful things to celebrate throughout January such as, ‘Winnie The Pooh Day’, ‘Sugar Awareness Week’, and ‘National Storytelling Week’. As well as this, we will continue with plenty of our daily activities that the children enjoy. We will ensure that January is just as fun as December!

Other important information

We have now been using our fogging machine for over a month now. We are ensuring that the nursery is extremely clean. Keeping our children, parents and staff safe is our priority

Nursery will reopen on Monday 4th January 2021 at 730am.

All that’s left to say is that we hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
