Alvechurch April News: Water Play, Outdoor Learning and Healthy Eating

The Old Station Nursery Group - Creating Brighter Futures Together

Hello to all of our fantastic families! It’s that time once again for you to enjoy reading all about the lovely activities your children have been up to while here with us at nursery. The weather has been amazing this month, with the children enjoying the sunshine and exploring lots of new activities along the way. We hope everyone is keeping safe and enjoying the lovely weather at home as well.

April news

This month, as a nursery, the children have enjoyed celebrating Rainbow Day. The children all had a fabulous time exploring a variety of activities and learning all about colours, experimenting with what happens when mixing them together.

The children also celebrated St Georges Day and made their very own dragons and shields. The children have been showing a lot of interest in this event and loved learning about St George and what this day represents.

Throughout April, the babies have been enjoying a variety of activities. They have enjoyed water and sand play; learning to scoop and pour, helping to develop their fine motor skills. The children have been exploring in the garden, developing their physical skills, such as walking, and learning to pull themselves up onto their feet. The children have also been enjoying running around and playing with the pushchairs and large cars.

This month, the toddlers have been exploring the sensory areas with the sand, searching for hidden objects using their hands and touch. The children always enjoy story time and this month was no different. The children have enjoyed the responsibility and independence of selecting books from the library in the reception area that they would like to read. They have also loved the sunshine over the last few weeks and made the most of their time on the field, taking toys and different resources with them to enjoy while playing outside.

This month, the children in pre-school have been learning all about their bodies. The children have spoken about how we need to take care of our bodies and how we can do this. The children have enjoyed exploring healthy eating, especially taking part in some food tasting activities. The children spoke about their likes and dislikes as well as learning about how the food helps our bodies grow. The children have also enjoyed a variety of physical exercises, helping them to understand more about all the different healthy things their body’s need in order to have lots of energy.

What’s coming up next month

We hope that the weather will continue to be nice so that the children can spend as much time as possible outside; playing on the field and exploring our garden. As always, the children will enjoy a variety of activities throughout the month developing a number of different skills, such as fine motor skills, gross motor skills, physical skills and communication skills.
