Swine flu update
14/07/09
Well, it’s finally got to us……over the last week we have had our first confirmed cases of swine flu, firstly in Cottesmore and then today in Faringdon. It is hardly a surprise as there have been local cases in the area of both these nurseries and it seems increasingly likely that we will all be exposed to someone who is suffering over the next few months. It has been interesting to see how the advice has changed over the weeks since the epidemic was first reported on; we have taken advice from the Health Protection Agency and our local authorities and they are both advising that we should notify parents that we have had cases within the nursery and we have been sent current information sheets to give out.
However, the advice is just to stay at home if you are showing any of the symptoms, and to have a 5 day ‘quarantine’ period before returning to nursery. In the meantime we are continuing to operate strict hygiene practices within each nursery and there is extra disinfecting going on as well.
To the children and staff who are feeling rotten, get well soon, and let’s hope this epidemic suprises the experts and disappears sooner rather than later. I don’t know about you, but I haven’t got time to be ill and am looking forward to the summer holidays!
