It’s been an interesting and frankly, unbelievable week in politics and many of us have probably watched the news with some feeling of bewilderment as ministers have fallen by the wayside and politicians have slipped down the nations list of acceptability to rest well below the spot previously enjoyed by estate agents. However, I was sad to hear that Beverley Hughes, the Children’s Minister has now stepped down from her role and will leave Parliament at the next General Election.  It was a really interesting experience being involved with the DCSF’s Children’s Plan last year and also taking part in the Early Years’ Stakeholder Group that Beverley chaired.  Regardless of my personal views on party politics, it was great to see the real commitment that Beverley had to improving the outcomes for children of all backgrounds and there was never any sign that years of fighting the system had led her to compromise on her ideals. I, for one, shall be sad to see her go and I think that the DCSF will have lost a real talent. 

Whilst sitting and writing this post, I’ve just heard on the radio that Gillian Merron MP has been appointed as Minister for Health. Gillian is the local MP for all our Lincoln nurseries and has been a great supporter of ours, including coming along to officially open our Lincoln Waterside nursery in October last year. So, well done Gillian and good luck in what will undoubtedly continue to be difficult times.
